Heavy Downpours Aggravate Situation for Uprooted Residents of Gaza, Agencies Warn

Persistent precipitation over the last seven days have worsened the already dire situation of the vast number of uprooted residents in the region, as reported by relief agencies.

"Terrible" Conditions Brings Grave Threats

A representative described the weather overnight as "awful", with precipitation so severe that around 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the streets.

"The recent weather was exceptionally horrendous for the residents. The storms were so powerful... And the gales were so strong," said the spokesperson.

There is grave worry that children residing in makeshift shelters in soaked attire will succumb to hypothermia and other sicknesses.

Deaths and Widespread Loss

Health authorities have stated that one baby has passed away from the cold and no fewer than 11 other people have been killed in structural failures triggered by the harsh conditions.

Other reports put a greater fatality count. Spokespeople stated that numerous structures had totally fallen and scores had been partly destroyed.

Assistance Efforts Considered Not Enough

Groups have increased deliveries of shelter, blankets and clothing after the ceasefire commenced, but they stress there is continues to be not enough aid getting in.

"Agencies are working relentlessly to bring in that relief and to hand it out, but the size of the needs is so enormous that we are faced with thousands of people and children who are truly suffering every night," warned one representative.

Long-Term Challenges and Ceasefire Provisions

The second phase of the truce involves proposals for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with post-war governance, the withdrawal of military forces, and other terms.

Relief organizations have stressed the imperative for "increased and sustained humanitarian assistance to meet pressing and long-term needs."

The war was initiated by an assault in late 2023. Following actions have resulted in a substantial number of casualties in the area, based on official figures.
