Iran Claims Assault on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Counterattacks.
Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone close to the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is uncertain and the American officials has remained silent.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - reported they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck sites linked to the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the government.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a number of missiles," the statement continued.
It said wreckage landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
