Fans are eagerly awaiting for the horror series It: Welcome to Derry, which is receiving positive feedback and drawing from elements from other Stephen King works. Following the premiere, the network announced that episode two will arrive early, timed perfectly for October 31st.

Beginning on the last day of October at midnight PT, the second episode of Welcome to Derry will make its debut on HBO Max, prior to its traditional TV airing. Future chapters of the series run will be released on the weekend on the network and streaming service, leading up to the concluding chapter on December 14th.

Storyline Summary

Based in the Derry mythology, Welcome to Derry draws from King’s iconic novel while expanding on the universe established by director Andy Muschietti in It and It Chapter Two. The original It centered on young characters confronting terrifying threats, so it’s fitting that this show follows in those footsteps. However, the first installment of the streaming show demonstrates it intended to increase the tension, delivering even more intense scares than the cinematic versions and establishing a brutal tone for what's to come.

Premise and Ideas

Taking place in the 1960s, the series introduces a fresh cast of adults and children living in a outwardly charming locale concealing a dark secret. Derry follows a cruel, recurring cycle—defined by hostility, discrimination, and otherworldly forces, as a terrifying being resurfaces each 27-year cycle. While the series might sound like it skews too close to the cinematic adaptations at first, what sets apart the digital program is its two-sided viewpoint—narrated via the eyes of both children and adults at the same time. The kids remain highly exposed to It's terror, but grown-ups don't escape confronting their own nightmares stemming from the town's ingrained prejudice and covert otherworldly powers.
