Mikel Arteta Applauds a More Dependable Squad and Confirms Havertz Setback.

Arsenal's manager has expressed confidence that his squad can keep managing with injury setbacks following confirming that attacker Kai Havertz remains out for a few more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for Havertz

The Germany international has been absent since the summer following an operation on his knee. Initially expected to be available earlier in December, the manager stated the player faced a hurdle when increasing his rehabilitation and could not progress “the next phase.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a squad that is considerably steadier and has greater depth,” Arteta said.

Selection Dilemma for Midweek Fixture

This news creates a selection headache for the midweek match against Brentford. Arteta must choose between persisting with Mikel Merino, who got a goal as a makeshift striker against Chelsea, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who came back off the bench in the latter stages. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus is an option after 11 months out.

Defensive Concerns Persist

More doubts surround centre-back William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who both missed the Stamford Bridge game. As a result, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to continue in the backline for the league leaders.

Arteta feels the ÂŁ250m spend on reinforcements ahead of this season has placed the club in a far better place to navigate such absences.

Greater Options Vital for Title Challenge

When asked if more options was helping their title quest, Arteta was emphatic. “Indeed, since the current term has been worse in certain positions, and now what’s happening with the backline,” he noted.

“Our previous experiences taught us that we need to utilize players in alternative spots, and they must be capable to adapt to new tasks if we are to fight at this level. And the case of Mikel is just the best one.”

Arteta's Support for Frustrated Havertz

Addressing the complication previously mentioned by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided further detail. “He followed all protocols. He was unable to progress to the next level and now it’s looking like we have solved that issue.”

Arteta expressed his keenness to welcome him back. “Everyone is eager to have him. Honestly, he is a footballer who, in my view, I love so much for his contributions to the team, but his character, his nature. I watch him struggle being outside.”

“His playing record is phenomenal, he's rarely been injured, and I am eagerly awaiting to get him back with the squad on the pitch because I believe it’s going to be a significant uplift.”
