Gus Atkinson added to the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the field early on day two in the Melbourne Test against Australia.
The pace bowler pulled up with his left leg after the final ball of the fourth over during the morning session.
The touring camp indicated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and was to take time off the field in order to be assessed "during the day".
The series decider of the series in Sydney starts on Sunday, 4 January.
England have already lost key quicks one seamer to a knee injury and another paceman to a side strain on the current trip.
Matthew Fisher was called up to provide backup.
Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, taking just a handful of scalps.
He was left out for the Adelaide match, before being recalled for the Boxing Day match in the playing XI.
Surrey's Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, taking two wickets during the host's first knock, then making 28 while batting among just a trio of English batsmen who passed ten runs.
