Shock as Beloved South African DJ Shot Dead in Johannesburg.
A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the metropolis of Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country grappling with persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the central business district on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the 40-year-old media personality was confronted by a trio of assailants, one of whom shot at him before escaping on foot.
The motive behind the incident is unknown and no one has been arrested are in custody, police said.
Details of the Attack
Police said that Stock was attacked as he was exiting a location near the city center landmark.
He had been present for hours at the building supervising the setup of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by unidentified individuals, it was reported.
"Authorities believe the man was confronted by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they began shooting at him before fleeing the scene on foot," an official report stated.
Security camera video reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocks and wearing what resembled a security uniform firing shots on Stock before making his escape.
The DJ tried to run away after he was hit but collapsed a short distance away.
It was further revealed that Stock had an unused firearm and it was not a robbery during the assault.
Crucial forensic evidence, like cartridges, were found at the scene.
Call for Public Assistance
Officials are asking members of the public who may have have information to assist with the investigation.
"Our information indicates they traveled on foot after the attack, and investigators have been tracking them to find their location," stated a police chief.
Outpouring of Grief
His sister, a close relative, expressed the relatives are devastated to come to terms with the loss.
"I am devastated. I don't have words," were her words.
"It is clear he was a champion for numerous individuals. He spoke out bravely about issues not many people were prepared to discuss. This is a tremendous loss."
She urged the community to refrain from sharing disturbing footage from the scene, explaining this was an extremely painful time, especially for Stock's children.
His Professional Legacy
Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a series that aired on a South African digital satellite entertainment channel.
Beyond his media career, Stock was involved in various entrepreneurial pursuits, including protective services, offering VIP protection services and managing safety for major functions across South Africa.
He was also said to be engaged in property management and assisted with building evictions.

His killing has caused national trauma and prompted an outpouring of tributes from his followers, the government and political parties.
A cabinet official said he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's murder.
"He was forthright boldly and honestly. He even criticized me and my actions as a public official. He was a shining model of who we must aspire to be," was his tribute.
A public representative stated the "audacious attack of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a shock for all South Africans".
A media executive expressed that "DJ Warras was far beyond a TV personality. He was a talented storyteller, a true devotee of sound and a generous spirit who brought joy and energy to every appearance. His commitment to his craft left an lasting impression."
In a statement, the broadcaster he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his magnetism, kindness and sharp wit, adding that his legacy "will live on".
