The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.
Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
