The Renowned Musician Calls On Support to Send Together for Palestine Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a Palestinian lullaby to the Christmas number one spot. The project aims to provide aid to communities in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Possibility for Solidarity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a chance to show solidarity with Palestinians during the holidays. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”
Defiant Message of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the adaptation of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a very special place for a lot of people,” Barghouti said. “The message is that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we seek to lead a life of dignity that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Contributing Musicians
The track was produced following a large-scale benefit event held in the autumn. Initially planned to be performed and recorded live, the rendition was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of performers appearing on Lullaby features a range of well-known figures from the music world. All took part in the earlier concert, which reportedly raised a considerable total for humanitarian aid.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was crafted by a group of talented individuals. The track blends a combination of the heritage language with contemporary English verses.
The group managing the project have stated that their goal is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These donations will be channeled to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a representative said. “We aim for as much as possible. Obviously, the higher the total, the greater the impact. It all goes out to Gaza.”
The reality in the region was characterized as its profound destruction, with a overwhelming percentage of infrastructure said to be in ruins or severely impacted.
“Against that backdrop, a few million is unlikely to make that much difference. But I think what does make a difference is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and showing there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a digital service from later in the month.
